In January 2021, OvidiuRo set a 5-year goal: Turn Romania’s 4500 public kindergartens into seedbeds of literacy
1. Train teachers in read-aloud techniques and other ways of developing literacy
2. Equip each kindergarten with a minimum of 30 books
3. Give each child in disadvantaged communities at least one book to take home
4. Create and consolidate sustainability for these activities, in connection to strategic national and European plans.

Blue: counties where kindergartens are part of the program
Green: counties where eligible kindergartens are targeted for inclusion
(as of November 2024)
RESULTS:
by July 2026
- 40,000 teachers have been trained in over 580 training sessions
- 3,290 schools are engaged in early literacy activities
- Over 920,000 picture books have been distributed to classrooms and into the hands of children in every county in Romania
And now….
READ ME 100 STORIES IN MOLDOVA!
In Spring 2024, the Minister of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova invited OvidiuRO to replicate their successful initiatives in Moldova. Teachers and librarians are enthusiastically participating in training sessions, both online and in person, and kindergartens are being supplied with intriguing age-appropriate books. The second phase of this partnership will involve UNICEF, as it develops into a national program to provide effective early education.
