Narcisa Cumpana

            Narcisa was 23 years old, with two young daughters, when she joined the first Doinita Mothers’ Program in August, 2001. Having finished ninth grade, she had the highest education level of the group, and she spoke English well enough to serve as translator. Her innate intelligence and determination to work were immediately apparent and that fall she was hired as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Stefanita classroom. Her income was the sole support for her children, her parents and several younger siblings.

            Narcisa blossomed as a teacher and has become a valued member of the staff, adored by the children and a fully participating member of the team. She is now working on getting a high school equivalency diploma and aspires to continue her studies in higher education.
