Mission: to support disadvantaged groups in Romania through medical, social and educational projects; to increase public awareness about local social problems; and to facilitate collaboration between government and NGO sectors in Bacau County.

1991: Mobile Health Care Project started by The Relief Fund for Romania (RFFR), a British charity, to provide basic health services and medicine to isolated villages. (This project has been adapted to the current reality and covers a wide range of community services for sustainable development of the area).

1992:  Play Therapy project initiated by British specialists who trained Romanian staff to provide comprehensive therapeutic services. (The staff now trains other organizations in Romania.)

1995:  Management and development of all local RFFR projects assumed by local Romanians.

1997:  FSC legally established as a Romanian charity.

1997:  Opening of Home Care for the Elderly program.

1999:  Opening of Casa Pistruiatul, residential home and day center for street children.

2001:  Inception of Gata, Dispus si Capabil with funding from USAID

2002:  FSC sponsors first Bacau Community Awards Dinner attended by over 200 local citizens.  Event raised $5700.  “Speranta” Day Center for Elderly opened.  “Doinita” Center for job training opened.

Today FSC operates five programs:

In addition to a 10-year record of long-term success in direct services, FSC has developed a reputation for quality “train-the-trainer” courses in elderly health care, health education and play therapy; a history of cooperation with local agencies and other NGOs; extensive experience managing large grants; and a reputation among international funding agencies for exemplary book-keeping.

In 2002, FSC reached over 2200 beneficiaries with direct services or training with a staff of 57 full-time and 20 part-time employees.  FSC currently is supported by USAID, The European Union’s Phare and ACCESS programs, Relief Fund for Romania (UK), National Lottery Charities Board (UK), the City Council of Bacau, Citibank Romania and The Alex Fund.
