Romanian local educators meet with Secretary of State Oana BadeaThe first national Fiecare Copil in Gradinita Conference took place at the Athénée Palace Hilton in Bucharest on August 31. It brought together mayors, school directors and general school inspectors as well as the State Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Oana Badea. During a lively discussion, Secretary Badea answered questions related to the new “per student” funding and its impact on positions like the school social workers and school mediators. It was a rare opportunity for people from communities in the countryside to directly address their concerns with a Secretary of State. After the conference, American Ambassador Mark Gitenstein hosted a reception at his residence to honor the local educators. The mayors and school directors were joined by several CEO’s of major companies. Ambassador Gitenstein praised the men and women present who were leading efforts to get every child in their communities into preschool. Minister of Education Daniel Funeriu commended the project for its results-oriented approach to providing early education for Romania’s poorest children. He also announced that he would like to help turn Fiecare Copil in Gradinita into a national public policy. |
