April 2011 EventApril, 2011. The Alex Fund was the beneficiary of an exciting theatrical production of Zalmoxis, directed by Romanian-American playwright Cristina Bejan at Georgetown University. This mystical play, written in 1921 by the famous Romanian philosopher and writer Lucian Blaga, is also a sharp political commentary, keenly relevant to contemporary life. A glimpse of the performance, which received rave reviews, was shown on Romanian television. With the production supported by a grant from the Ion Ratiu Foundation, Bejan generously donated the $1500 proceeds from ticket sales to The Alex Fund. These funds are being used to purchase educational supplies for the schools participating in Ovidiu Rom’s Fiecare Copil in Gradinita. At a preview performance at the Romanian Embassy in Washington, D.C. on April 18, Wendy Phillips Kahn introduced the work of The Alex Fund to the invited audience. Hearty congratulations and deep gratitude to Cristina Bejan! Event photos go to > |
