APRIL ATTENDANCE RECORDS ARE IN!

The Alex Fund supports the Fiecare Copil in Gradinita (“Every Child in Preschool”) program in Romania.  One of the primary tools used to get poor parents to send their children to school every day is to offer food coupons in exchange for the children’s perfect attendance.

In April, 1057 children in 19 communities had perfect attendance and received food coupons.  The March high of 84% dropped slightly in April to 81%. (Holidays invariably have this effect.)

The schools report that this year’s overall preschool attendance is the highest in recent history:
