American Ambassador Mark Gitenstein, appointed by US President Obama, spoke eloquently about the irony of when we say one thing about our aspirations for the disadvantaged, but our actions express something else. He noted that “education is closely linked to development and nothing means more to the future of Romania than raising the median level of education.”

Our gamble to forego the traditional “Live Auction” in favor of Community Actions paid off. Four companies each committed to Adopt a School: Carrefour, E.on, Oracle, and Prospectiuni. Three companies committed to sponsoring Summer Schools: Petrom (for four summer schools), Raiffeisen, and Rosia Montana Gold Corporation.
